What you’ll do:
- Prepare patients for the provider visit: Take vital signs (height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations) and enter data into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Gather patient information: Enter the patient’s reason for visit, review and update chronic problems, past medical/surgical/family/social history, reconcile medications, and update allergies – all within the EMR.
- Support the provider: Order diagnostic tests (x-rays, mammograms, labs) and referrals as directed.
- Perform clinical procedures: Conduct EKGs, Spirometry, OAE testing, tympanography, audiometry, vision testing, and oxygen administration after demonstrating competency.
- Deliver patient care: Administer immunizations, injectable medications (upon competency), and medication refills (using e-prescribing whenever possible) following standing orders or provider instructions.
- Educate patients: Provide written or verbal patient education within your scope, documenting everything in the EMR.
- Communication hub: Answer phone calls from patients, families, providers, pharmacies, and other clinics/hospitals, documenting all communication in the EMR.
- Maintain the work environment: Keep exam rooms clean and stocked, and act as a chaperone during exams as needed.
- Professionalism matters: Present a professional appearance and approach when interacting with patients and staff.
